As a nationwide, proudly queer-owned mental health practice, we are deeply concerned about the continued presence of police at Pride events, including Midsumma.

Pride has its roots in protest, led by the trans women of Stonewall who fought courageously against institutional violence.

Yet today, law enforcement remains notorious for its mistreatment of marginalised communities, including LGBTQIA+ people, inflicting unchecked brutality and fostering fear.

In our work, we see firsthand the severe mental health impacts this creates—heightened anxiety, trauma, and ongoing distrust of authorities.

The decision by groups like Transgender Victoria to withdraw from the Midsumma Pride March underscores the urgent need for meaningful reform, as these concerns are neither isolated nor unfounded.

We stand in solidarity with all those who demand an end to police involvement in Pride, insisting that there is simply no place for cops at an event intended to celebrate and protect our diverse, beautiful communities.
