Abasiophilia
Abasiophilia refers to a sexual attraction to people who are disabled, particularly those who use wheelchairs or have other mobility limitations.
Abasiophilia can manifest in various ways, such as an attraction to the assistive devices themselves, a fascination with the way someone moves while using a device, or a desire to be the caretaker of someone with a disability.
While abasiophilia is often associated with individuals who have physical disabilities, it can also extend to those with non-physical disabilities or limitations, such as individuals with cognitive or developmental disabilities.
There is ongoing debate within the medical community as to whether abasiophilia should be considered a disorder or not, as it can be viewed as either a harmless preference or a problematic fixation.
It is sometimes related to acrotomophilia (sexual attraction to amputees) and apotemnophilia (sexual attraction to the idea of being an amputee).
At Progressive Therapeutic Collective, we are proudly sex-positive and kink-affirming counselling and sex therapy practice. We work hard to reduce shame and instead, encourage open and supportive conversations about our sexual selves.
We are based in Boorloo/Perth, but work across Australia via telehealth.
