International Sex Worker Rights Day

Today is International Sex Worker Rights Day. At Progressive Therepeutic Collective, we are strong advocates for the decriminalisation of sex work across Australia.

It is our sincere hope that sex workers feel safe and welcome within our practice, always.

International Sex Worker Rights Day is observed on March 3rd every year to raise awareness about the human rights of sex workers and to advocate for the improvement of their working conditions, social status, and legal recognition.

The day commemorates a historic event that took place in 2001 when more than 25,000 sex workers gathered in India for a festival, where they faced violence and harassment from the police. This event sparked a global movement for sex worker rights, which has grown over the years, highlighting the need for sex workers to be recognized as legitimate workers and protected under labor laws.

The day is an opportunity to recognize the challenges that sex workers face, such as violence, exploitation, and discrimination, and to support their rights to safe and healthy working conditions, access to healthcare, and protection under the law.
